About Maggie

A proud member of Migisi Sahgaigan (Eagle Lake First Nation) in the Treaty #3 Territory, Maggie has built a career rooted in cultural integrity, strategic leadership, and deep commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.

Maggie Kavanaugh is a dedicated and accomplished Indigenous relations and resource management professional with over 15 years of experience working at the intersection of government, Indigenous communities, and the natural resource sector in Northern Ontario. 

Maggie leads complex consultation and engagement efforts, facilitates cross-sector collaboration, and provides strategic advice on Indigenous rights and resource development. Maggie’s leadership extends beyond her formal roles.  She currently serves as the Chair of the Indigenous Circle for AMAPCEO, where she champions Indigenous representation and fosters supportive networks within the public service.  Her commitment to equity and inclusion is further demonstrated through her voluntary completion of diversity and intersectionality training, and her active participation in anti-racism and reconciliation initiatives.

Her career includes impactful roles such as Resource Liaison Specialist with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment Officer with Four Rivers Matawa First Nations Management, Lands and Resources Manager for Migisi Sahgaigan and Environmental Technician for Agirum Phosphate Operations.  In each position, Maggie has demonstrated exceptional negotiation, facilitation, and policy development skills – successfully resolving long-standing issues, building capacity in Indigenous communities, and advancing collaborative environmental monitoring programs.

Maggie holds an Aboriginal Law Certificate from Osgoode Hall Law School, a Human Resources Diploma from the College of New Caledonia, and an Aquaculture Diploma from Sir Sandford Fleming College. Her professional development includes extensive training in consultations, environmental management and project management.

With a reputation for diplomacy, cultural fluency, and strategic insight, Maggie continues to be a respected voice in Indigenous relations and environmental stewardship across Ontario.
